Transcriptional control: The benefits of selective insulation
In eukaryotes, cis-regulatory sequences are often a long way away from the transcription start site, and interactions between regulatory elements can be blocked by 'insulator' sequences. A novel type of cis-regulatory element has now been found that selectively permits some interactions across insulators.
Transcriptional control: Imprinting insulation
Recent studies on the transcriptional regulation of two linked, imprinted genes, Igf2 and H19, have provided evidence for a novel mechanism of epigenetic control. DNA methylation controls the activity of an insulator element located between the two linked genes by regulating the binding of the zinc-finger protein CTCF.

In this paper, the thermal performance of four common insulators in two internal and external insulation systems is investigated for the ASHRAE setpoint range by applying detailed numerical simulation and Anti-Insulation phenomenon. Anti-Insulation phenomenon and consequent extra load on the HVAC system can occur following the thermal insulation of a building if proper temperature setpoint is n...
Chromatin insulation by a transcriptional activator.
In eukaryotic genomes, transcriptionally active regions are interspersed with silent chromatin that may repress genes in its vicinity. Chromatin insulators are elements that can shield a locus from repressive effects of flanking chromatin. Few such elements have been characterized in higher eukaryotes, but transcriptional activating elements are an invariant feature of active loci and have been...
